A setback

I had emergency surgery on the 29th. I’m recuperating at New York-Presbyterian hospital, where I’m receiving excellent care.

This was also a big week because the COVID Alert strategy of partnering with Google and Apple and the States,

Round 3

Getting my third round of chemo today. I need to be eating more.

Panitumumab

The initial genetics came back on my tumor and it has wild-type KRAS and NRAS genes. As a result, my second round of chemo, which I had today, switched from FOLFIRINOX to FOLFIRI + Panitumumab. Panitumumab is a targeted therapy using monoclonal antibodies.

Medport

Unfortunately, the ablation was unsuccessful as they weren’t able to locate the arrhythmia.

Separately, I got a medport installed today as an outpatient procedure. I have my second round of chemo starting tomorrow.

Cardiac ablation

I’m getting a cardiac ablation Monday afternoon to try to resolve my tachycardia. It will hopefully involve one night in the hospital and then address the exhaustion that I’ve been feeling.

Dan Kohn
Colon stent

After presenting with tachycardia and a colon blockage, I got a colon stent, which led to 4 nights in Mount Sinai West. The stent was successful but we’re still working on the tachycardia.

Diagnosis

After getting a CT scan Friday, I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer on Monday. To save you the web search, the 5 year survival rate is 14%, but I’m certainly aiming to beat that.

I’ve been admitted to Mount Sinai West hospital and, in 36 hours, was able to confirm the diagnosis with a biopsy and start on chemo. My expectation is that I will be back at work in a week or so and will continue running LF Public Health.
